The Unfolding Spirit of Consciousness - Symbolism of the Hindu Naga/Serpent Goddess
The worship of the Naga or snake Goddess is prevalent in Southern India. The serpent tells the story of creation and evolution which is related on the individual level to Initiation and Enlightenment – the unfolding spiral of consciousness. In psychological terms the Kundalini Serpent represents the power of the unconscious, waiting to be roused into consciousness. Symbolism such as spirals, serpents and mandalas and other ancient and universal images appear though all ages and cultures and according to Carl Jung act as a liberating and integrating force in the psyche or soul. Rosemary will discuss these concepts in relation to the symbolism surrounding the Naga Goddess and will include some art-work showing experiences, recordings and inspiration while staying in Southern India for three months in 2008 and five months in 2009. In the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to help free creativity and authenticity to explore symbolism and concepts of consciousness using a range of art materials. |
